Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed the importance of strengthening the fruitful co-operation with the Italian multinational company Eni and expressing his appreciation for the existing partnership with the company and its various activities in Egypt.

The president’s remarks came during his meeting on Tuesday with Claudio Descalzi, CEO of the Italian Petroleum Company Eni, and a number of senior company officials, in the presence of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Minister of Petroleum Tarek al-Mulla, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

The president also expressed his aspiration to continue the company’s activity in the field of research and exploration in order to achieve the optimal exploitation of Egypt’s energy resources.

The president also reviewed the current and future activity of the Italian multinational company in Egypt in the fields of exploration and production, as well as co-operation in the field of renewable energy projects.

For his part, Eni’s CEO expressed his pride in the discoveries, which were made under the leadership and careful personal follow-up of President Sisi, which had a great impact on the company’s success in producing Egyptian natural gas.

This success, he said, made Egypt one of the main regional countries in energy production and export sector at a time when the world is witnessing a severe energy crisis.

Eni CEO reviewed, during the meeting, the integrated plan for co-operation with Egypt in the new and renewable energy sector, especially wind and solar energy, by implementing a number of joint projects to produce about 10 gigawatts of electricity in the coming years, as part of Egypt’s strategy for green transformation and for increasing the proportion of the energy mix.

Minister al-Mulla also reviewed the developments of the various projects implemented by the Italian company in Egypt, in co-operation with government agencies, especially with regard to the production of natural gas from Zohr field, as well as to the export of liquefied gas from liquefaction stations in Idku and Damietta, which are currently operating at full efficiency.

This is the sector in which Egypt achieved a great leap and became a pivotal producer in the Mediterranean region. This comes within the framework of Egypt’s vision to become a regional energy hub, the minister said.
