CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram said Egypt is keen on supporting Egyptians abroad to continue their success stories.

During a meeting Thursday with Dr Tarek Abdel Aziz, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Texas, USA, and the winner of the Research Excellence Award for two consecutive years and the President of the International Toxicology Conference that is planned to be held for the first time in the Middle East, the minister expressed pride over the strenuous efforts exerted by Egyptian scientists and experts abroad to honour their motherland in the various scientific forums.

“Education is our way to real progress down the road toward building the New Republic,” she said.

She affirmed Egypt’s keenness to back its citizens abroad to continue their successful achievements, highlighting the influence that lies in the soft power of Egyptian expatriates, together with their important role in displaying Egypt’s immense contributions to human knowledge.

For his part, Dr Tarek Abdel Aziz said that he graduated from Minya University, and then obtained a Master’s degree in 2011 from the Department of Zoology that qualified him to begin his doctorate studies in France and then complete his research work in Japan and the USA.

He added that he was honored for his research on “understanding the cycle of neuronal channels, their effect and more recently his quest to devise a treatment for the effect of protein action on them”.

Regarding his selection as president of the International Toxicology Conference, Abdel Aziz explained that there were many steps that preceded this, starting from communicating with the International Society of Poisons and providing presentations until the conference’s organisers accepted to hold it for the first time in the Middle East, in Abu Dhabi, next October, instead of being held in Russia. The event will bring together more than 500 researchers, professors and experts in the economics of toxins and their manufacturers from all over the world, he said.

Dr Tariq also said that Egyptian researchers based abroad have a strong determination to honor their motherland, acquire knowledge and share successful experiences with professors and researchers at home to support the Egyptian scientific and academic community and promote the nation’s scientific and academic development.
