Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Thursday with his Somali counterpart Abdisalam Abdi Ali to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations as well as the developments in Somalia and the Horn of Africa.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nader Zaki said the two ministers discussed building on the growing momentum in the strategic partnership between the two countries.
They stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in economic, development and investment fields, as well as supporting efforts to build Somali state institutions and strengthen their capabilities.
Minister Abdelatty also stressed the importance of following up on the outcomes of the consultative quadrilateral summit held in the New Alamein city, saying this would help enhance cooperation, integration and economic ties among countries in the region and support efforts to achieve security, stability and development in the Horn of Africa.
The two sides exchanged views on the latest political and security developments in Somalia, the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, rejecting any unilateral measures that could undermine the country’s sovereignty or territorial unity.
