Egyptian Minister of Health Hala Zayed said that a shipment of raw materials to start manufacturing two million doses of the Sinovac vaccine against coronavirus is expected to arrive in the coming few days.

This came during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli Monday to follow up the latest developments regarding measures taken by the state to curb the coronavirus pandemic.

During the meeting, the prime minister said that the Tahya Misr (Long Live Egypt) Fund is the main arm to collect different contributions by banks and companies to purchase Covid-19 vaccines, in addition to allocations of the state’s general budget.

The move comes in line with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives about providing Covid-19 vaccines and is part of efforts exerted on this score, the prime minister said.

The government has allocated about two billion pounds so far to buy the vaccines, he said. Minister Zayed, meanwhile, said the stock of liquid medical oxygen is safe at hospitals and all necessary medication and medical supplies are available.

Measures will jumpstart to vaccinate all prisoners, she unveiled, adding pensioners will also be
provided with vaccines starting from June.
