Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, met on Saturday with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, who also chairs the UN Sustainable Development Group, to exchange views on key regional and international issues.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad, Iraq.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nader Zaki said Abdelatty praised the close partnership between Egypt and the UN, reaffirming Egypts firm support for the multilateral system and its commitment to the UN Charter and international law.

Minister Abdelatty also commended UN Secretary-General António Guterres and his deputy for their efforts to defend the UN Charter and address violations of international law.

He stressed the importance of the UN’s role in maintaining international peace and security, as well as the need to respect international law, international humanitarian law and international human rights law, particularly amid continued Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

The minister also reviewed Egypts efforts to contain regional crises and de-escalate tensions.

He underscored the importance of strengthening multilateral action, supporting political and diplomatic solutions to conflicts, and expanding international cooperation to address shared challenges.

For her part, Mohammed expressed appreciation for Egypts pivotal role in supporting UN efforts at the regional and international levels.

She praised Egypts contributions to conflict resolution and stability, as well as its role in peacekeeping operations and humanitarian work.

She also reaffirmed the UN commitment to further strengthening co-operation with Egypt across various fields.
