Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed the importance of diplomatic engagement, political solutions, and enhanced regional co-ordination to de-escalate tensions and preserve regional security and stability.

During a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad, the two sides discussed regional developments, particularly the Iranian issue, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Nader Zaki.

Abdelatty underscored the need to strengthen consultations through the regional quadrilateral mechanism, reject threats to Gulf security, and oppose the use of strategic straits and maritime routes as tools of pressure or escalation.

The two ministers reviewed proposals aimed at containing tensions and stressed that negotiations and renewed dialogue between the United States and Iran remain essential to resolving the crisis and preventing further damage to regional interests.

On Yemen, both sides highlighted the importance of supporting state institutions and reiterated their condemnation of attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Regarding Sudan, Abdelatty emphasised the need to preserve the country’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions, reaffirming Egypt’s support for a political settlement that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

On Libya, he stressed the importance of advancing the political process, overcoming divisions, and unifying national institutions to safeguard the country’s unity, sovereignty, and stability.

Concerning Syria, Abdelatty highlighted the need to support stability and preserve the country’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, enabling state institutions to fulfil their role in maintaining national security.
