CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Nivine el-Kabbag announced on Monday the launch of two programmes to carry out national and regional activities to protect youth from violence, crime and drug addiction.
The two programmes were launched in cooperation with the UNODC Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa.
Under the two programs, specialists from six countries, namely Egypt, Algeria, Lebanon, Sudan, Libya and Palestine, will use the power of sports, art and psychosocial support to protect young people from falling into the clutches of addiction.
The minister made the announcement during her inauguration of a regional workshop organised by the Addiction Treatment and Abuse Fund and UNODC, which will run till May 26.
The workshop aims to provide regional training to build the capacity of cadres working in the field of addiction treatment using the latest international standards in this regard.
