The Kremlin has commented on the humiliating midterms defeat dealt to Donald Trump’s party overnight.
Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, commented on the results, and shared the Kremlin’s “hope” over Trump’s work on bringing the illegal war on Ukraine started by Moscow in 2022 to an end.
He said, as reported by Interfax: “President Trump continues to exercise his powers, and we sincerely hope that he will continue his peacekeeping efforts.”
The Republican party suffered a series of major defeats overnight, as Senate and Governorships, such as those in Kansas and Texas, were lost to the Democrats.
Trump has isnsited that were he on the ballot, Republicans would have won nationwide.
The Democrats have regained control of the House of Representatives, which they last held in 2023, having flipped numerous seats in states including Kentucky, New Jersey, Indiana and North Carolina.
The party also won Senate seats in the former Republican strongholds of Texas, Kansas, South Carolina, Ohio, Maine and Iowa.
