Egypt and Eritrea reaffirmed the importance of safeguarding Red Sea security.

During a phone call with Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh on Tuesday, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed that responsibility for Red Sea security and governance rests exclusively with the bordering countries.

Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s full support for Eritrea’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nader Zaki said.

He reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to advancing economic co-operation, increasing the volume of trade, and encouraging joint investments, and to strengthen the contribution of Egyptian companies to development projects in Eritrea in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two brotherly peoples.

The two ministers exchanged views on developments in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries of the region, as well as the preservation of their national institutions.

The talks also addressed ways to follow up on the outcomes of the quadrilateral consultative summit held in New Alamein.

The two sides emphasised the importance of implementing the summit’s conclusions to promote security, stability, development and de-escalation in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
