The Arab League (AL) condemned the attacks launched by the Houthi militia against Maashiq Palace, the premises of the Yemeni government in Aden; Aden International Airport; and residential neighbourhoods in the city of Marib.
The attacks resulted in casualties and injuries and placed civilians’ lives at grave risk.
The AL expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery, reaffirming its full solidarity with the Yemeni government and people, MENA reported.
In a statement on Saturday, the AL stressed that these attacks constitute a highly dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
It noted that the continued targeting of state institutions and civilian facilities reflects a determination to pursue an escalatory course that threatens Yemen’s security and stability and undermines efforts to de-escalate tensions and reach a political settlement to the Yemeni crisis.
The AL reiterated its steadfast position in support of Yemen’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its backing for the Yemeni government and the country’s legitimate state institutions.
It called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities and adopt firm positions and measures to halt these attacks and hold those responsible accountable, in a manner that ensures the protection of civilians and safeguards state institutions.
The AL also welcomed the presidential statement issued by the UN Security Council on October 15 which condemned the escalating Houthi attacks and called for an immediate halt to the escalation and attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The AL underscored the importance of intensifying Arab and international efforts to reach a comprehensive political settlement to the Yemeni crisis, in accordance with the agreed-upon terms of reference and relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216, in a manner that ensures the restoration of security and stability and brings an end to the suffering of the Yemeni people.
