Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty called for stronger co-operation among Islamic countries to address Middle East crises and prevent further military escalation.
In his speech at the 52nd session of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad on Saturday, Abdelatty said that the Palestinian cause remained a top priority for Egypt.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and rejected Israeli occupation and the displacement of Palestinians.
Abdelatty also condemned attacks on Saudi Arabia and expressed Egypt’s full support for the kingdom and other Gulf states.
He said Red Sea security and freedom of navigation were priorities for Egypt, stressing that responsibility for the sea’s security rests with its Arab and African coastal states.
The minister also reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the unity and sovereignty of Yemen, Sudan and Somalia, calling for diplomatic solutions, an end to foreign interference and greater regional stability.
