Cairo, Djibouti discuss expanding economic co-operation

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Cairo’s support for Libya’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and stability.

The reaffirmation was made during talks with Taher al-Baour, acting head of Libya’s Foreign Ministry, in Baghdad on Saturday.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nader Zaki said.

The two sides discussed bilateral relations, ways to strengthen co-operation across various fields and the latest developments in Libya and the region.

Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Libyan state institutions in a way that serves the interests of the Libyan people and fulfils their aspirations.

He also underscored the importance of continued efforts to restore security and stability in the country.

Both sides exchanged views on regional developments and highlighted the need for continued consultation and co-ordination to address shared concerns and intensify diplomatic efforts to resolve ongoing crises.

Abdelatty also met Djibouti’s Foreign Minister Abdoulkader Houssein Omar in Baghdad to discuss bilateral ties and regional developments.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to expanding co-operation with Djibouti, particularly in trade, investment, economic development, infrastructure, ports, logistics and energy.

He stressed the importance of building on the outcomes of the first session of the Egyptian-Djiboutian Joint Business Council and encouraging Egyptian companies to participate in development projects in Djibouti, advancing the shared interests of both countries.

The two ministers also discussed developments in the Horn of Africa, Sudan and the Red Sea.

Abdelatty emphasised the need to safeguard Red Sea security, ensure safe and free navigation, and respect states’ sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He also called for stronger co-operation among Red Sea littoral states to manage the strategic waterway.
