Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, and Bahrain’s Finance and National Economy Minister and Governor for Bahrain at the World Bank (WB), Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, discussed on Thursday ways to strengthen economic and financial ties and enhance co-ordination within the WB.
The two ministers highlighted the deep-rooted historical and fraternal ties between Egypt and Bahrain, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening political, economic and investment co-operation and increasing high-level visits in the interests of both peoples and in support of joint Arab action.
They also underscored the importance of continued co-ordination on issues of mutual concern and of supporting Arab countries’ development priorities at international financial forums.
Abdelatty outlined the latest developments in Egypt’s economic and structural reform programme, as well as the government’s priorities for achieving fiscal sustainability, promoting private sector-led growth, attracting investment, creating jobs and expanding social protection.
He stressed the importance of continued WB support for Egypt’s reform and development efforts.
The meeting also addressed ways to increase Bahraini investment in Egypt, particularly in infrastructure, logistics and energy.
The two sides explored opportunities to make greater use of the International Finance Corporation’s financing and guarantee instruments to mobilise investment, particularly in climate finance, green investment and infrastructure projects.
For his part, the Bahraini minister reaffirmed the strong fraternal ties between the two countries, describing Egypt as a strategic partner for the Gulf states.
He stressed Bahrain’s keenness to expand its investments in Egypt, strengthen the economic partnership and advance the shared interests of both peoples.
