CAIRO – Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon affirmed his confidence that the agreements with Egypt which he witnessed their signing alongside President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will provide a basis for promoting relations between the two countries in all fields.
In a joint press conference held on Thursday with President Sisi at Al-Ittihadiya presidential palace, the Tajik president thanked Sisi on inviting him to visit Egypt.
Rahmon said that today he had expanded talks with the participation of delegations from both countries and a significant consensus was reached, adding that a number of memorandums of understanding that will help enhance legal framework of bilateral relations were also signed.
The expanded talks touched on key issues of bilateral and multilateral relations, he said, adding that it was asserted that constructive bilateral co-operation will serve the long-term interests of both Egypt and Tajikistan.
The Tajik president asserted the importance of parliamentary relations in developing the comprehensive bilateral cooperation as well as of consolidating the role of the parliamentary friendship groups in this process.
He pointed out to the importance of expanding co-operation in the fields of industry, investment, agriculture, health, energy and transport among others.
He also praised the constructive role of the Joint Tajik-Egyptian Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Scientific and Technical Co-operation as an effective mechanism for following up issues related to bilateral cooperation and identifying new promising fields of relations between both countries.
The Egyptian and Tajik sides agreed that holding the Tajikistani-Egyptian Business Forum and establishing a business council in both countries will play a key role in expanding co-operation, the Tajik president said.
He added that the two sides agreed on boosting trade exchange.
During his joint press conference here with President Sisi, the Tajik president said shared keenness to expand co-operation in economic zones in Tajikistan and Egypt was expressed during talks.
The two sides affirmed the necessity of developing cultural co-operation and agreed to hold cultural days in both countries and exchange expertise between their scientific and educational institutions, he said.
They also expressed keenness to expand cooperation in the tourism sector, he also said, adding that views were exchanged on a number of pressing regional and international issues.
Given their identical and close positions towards key regional and international issues, both countries agreed that proceeding with cooperation and supporting each others’ stances at the regional and international levels are a “matter of necessity”, according to the Tajik president.
Rahmon said his country and Egypt expressed their readiness for promoting mutually beneficial cooperation regarding issues of regional security and combating threats and challenges of the modern world in addition to other areas of mutual interest.
Both sides exchanged views on security issues and means of ending disputes as soon as possible in the Middle East, North Africa and Afghanistan, the Tajik president said,
The Tajik president said issues related to water and climate change were also addressed during the talks, thanking Egypt for supporting his country’s global water and climate initiative.
He also hailed Egypt’s initiative to prevent global warming, expressing his country’s support to the agenda of the
UN Climate Change Conference 2022 that Egypt will host this year.
He described his visit to Egypt as promising and distinguished, inviting President Sisi to visit Tajikistan.
