Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny witnessed on Wednesday the signing of a CO2 Connect agreement between the Holding Company for EgyptAir and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), on the sidelines of the Egypt International Airshow and Space 2026 (EIAS 2026).
The agreement reflects Egypt’s efforts to expand the adoption of international standards and practices for environmental sustainability and carbon emissions measurement, in line with rapid global changes in air transport.
The agreement was signed by EgyptAir Holding Chairman and CEO Pilot Ahmed Adel and IATA Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East Kamel El-Awady.
El-Hefny said the agreement is an important step in Egypt’s commitment to international sustainability standards.
“It will enable the use of advanced tools and methodologies to measure and monitor carbon emissions, supporting more efficient decision-making and helping airlines meet growing environmental requirements,” the minister added.
Pilot Ahmed Adel said the agreement will help EgyptAir develop its system for measuring and monitoring emissions by using IATA’s CO2 Connect programme and linking emissions data to the Amadeus reservation system.
“This will allow the carbon emissions associated with each flight to be displayed on passenger tickets,” he added.
Adel noted that the data will provide EgyptAir with a more accurate tool to assess its environmental performance, identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce emissions, and meet international environmental requirements, including European regulations.
Adel stressed that EgyptAir will continue aligning its operations with international sustainability standards as the aviation industry moves toward a more sustainable future.
