Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Sunday attended the opening session of an extraordinary African Union summit on strengthening mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution in Africa.
Madbouly is representing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the summit, hosted by Angola at the Luanda Conference Centre in the capital.
The prime minister attended the session alongside Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs Mohamed Abu Bakr and Egypt’s Ambassador to Angola Nevine El-Husseini.
The opening session was attended by Angolan President João Lourenço, African Union Chairman and Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye, and African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, along with a number of other African heads of state and government.
The session featured remarks by President Lourenço, followed by addresses from Youssouf and Ndayishimiye.
The speakers focused on ways to strengthen peace and security across Africa and promote the continent’s development.
The opening session concluded with a group photograph of the participating African heads of state and government and officials from the African Union Commission.
