Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Randa el-Menshawy met on Sunday with officials of “Mawaslat Modon Misr” to review the company’s vision for managing and developing a sustainable public transport and shared mobility system in new cities.
Deputy Housing Minister for Urban Communities Walid Abbas, officials from the Ministry and New Urban Communities Authority, and CEO of Modon Misr for Asset Management and Utilities Mohamed Abu Taleb were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, Minister el-Menshawy stressed the importance of developing transport systems in new cities in line with rapid urban and population growth, providing safe, regular and sustainable services, coordinating with the Ministry of Transport, and using modern technology for operations, fare collection and vehicle tracking.
She stressed that the new system must include clear monitoring, oversight and performance-measurement mechanisms based on specific indicators for service quality and regularity, alongside rapid handling of citizens’ complaints and feedback and wider use of smart systems.
Mawaslat Modon Misr officials presented plans for a sustainable internal transport network, including a unified visual identity for shared transport in line with sustainable urban transport standards and measures to regulate unlicensed services.
The vision includes an integrated platform combining expertise in transport operations, information technology, transport consultancy, and land and business asset management.
A plan was also discussed to link internal networks in new cities with the Ministry of Transport’s main network, including the light rail and monorail, improving connectivity between new cities and other areas.
Proposed measures to ensure sustainability include deploying 200 new vehicles, maintenance and insurance contracts, service-level agreements and operational plans for each city, and establishing main and branch operations centres and management rooms within city authorities.
The meeting also reviewed driver training and skills development, a unified transport identity and the proposed timeline for vehicle deployment.
