Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid announced on Wednesday the launch of “Egypt Exports” initiative at Tanta University in Gharbia Governorate, aiming to expand Egypt’s exporter base and help more companies access international markets.

Speaking at the event, held under the patronage of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Farid said Egypt has achieved steady export growth but stressed that the next challenge is increasing the number of exporting companies.

He noted that just 50 firms account for around 45% of the country’s exports, while only 730 companies have so far benefited from government export development services.

Farid said the initiative marks a shift in the ministry’s approach by taking export support directly to businesses in governorates and industrial clusters rather than requiring companies to seek out government agencies.

The programme will connect firms with services offered by the Export Development Authority, Export Development Fund, General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, General Organization for Exhibitions and Conferences, and the Commercial Representation Authority through workshops and outreach activities.

The minister said Gharbia recorded exports worth about $2.1 billion over the past five years and has strong potential to increase its contribution. He also announced that the ministry is considering launching competitions and incentives for companies achieving the strongest export growth.
