Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel Latif received a high-level delegation from Iraq’s Ministry of Education and the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) in Iraq to discuss ways of benefiting from Egypt’s partnership with Japan in developing the education system and transferring relevant expertise to Iraq.
The minister highlighted the strength of Egyptian-Iraqi relations and outlined the Egyptian-Japanese co‑operation model launched following President Abdel Fattah El‑Sisi’s visit to Japan in 2016. He noted that the partnership led to the establishment of Egyptian-Japanese schools and the introduction of the Japanese Tokkatsu educational activities, which focus on building students’ character, life skills, teamwork, discipline and sense of responsibility.
Abdel Latif said Egypt now has 103 Egyptian‑Japanese schools serving more than 31,000 students nationwide. He also reviewed co‑operation with Hiroshima University in teacher training and school leadership development.
The minister highlighted ongoing Egyptian-Japanese collaboration in curriculum development, including mathematics and science curricula for primary education, as well as the introduction of programming and artificial intelligence for first-year secondary students through Japan’s QUREO platform in partnership with SPRIX and Hiroshima University. He added that the partnership extends to the development of financial literacy, mathematics, physics and chemistry curricula within the Egyptian Baccalaureate system.
Members of the Iraqi delegation and JICA representatives praised the success of the Egyptian-Japanese education experience, particularly in implementing Tokkatsu activities, modernising curricula, and incorporating programming and AI into education. They expressed interest in benefiting from Egypt’s experience and transferring successful practices to Iraq.
Both sides agreed to continue co‑ordination, exchange visits and share expertise to support educational development and expand co‑operation between Egypt and Iraq.
