Egypt has stressed the dire need to reach an agreement between the US and Iran that takes into account the concerns of all parties, particularly countries in the region, in order to avoid the risks of escalation, tension and terrorism.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, Egypt warned that the current regional and global security, economic and geopolitical situation over recent months underscores the importance of accelerating efforts to reach such an agreement to restore stability in the Middle East.
Egypt said that a swift agreement is essential to restore security and stability in the region and to address outstanding issues, including the Iranian nuclear file and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The statement emphasised the importance of all parties adhering to the principles of international law and the UN Charter, particularly respect for state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and the prohibition of the use of force in resolving disputes, while prioritising political and diplomatic solutions.
Egypt called for creating the conditions necessary to reach consensus-based understanding that would allow for addressing other regional crises, foremost among them the Palestinian issue, which Egypt described as the core of regional conflict.
Egypt also urged renewed attention to the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank. It called for the completion of the first phase of the US President Donald Trump peace plan, as well as the immediate implementation of the second phase.
