The 2026 World Junior Weightlifting Championships officially commenced this morning in Ismailia, marking the start of a prestigious international event that will run from May 2 through May 8.

This week-long competition brings together the finest young athletes from around the globe to compete for top honours in their respective weight classes.

The opening day has already set an energetic tone for the tournament as the local community and international sports fans gather to support the next generation of weightlifting stars.

The Egyptian men’s national youth team features a talented roster of athletes from various academies and clubs.

The lineup includes Sayed Ali Attia, Mahmoud Metwally, Iyad Mohamed, Abdelrahman Hussein, and Ali Abdelradi, representing weight classes from 65 kg to 79 kg. Completing the men’s squad are Mostafa Mahmoud Bakry, Mostafa Abdelhay, and Mohamed Magdy, who will compete in the heavier divisions ranging from 88 kg to the super-heavyweight +110 kg category.

Egypt’s women’s national team is equally prepared, showcasing a diverse group of lifters ready to compete on the world stage.
The team starts with its lightest competitors, Fatima Abdel Nabi and Basma Junaidi, followed by Yasmin Abdullah and Abeer Mohamed Mustafa. The middle and heavy weight classes are represented by Amira Mohamed Abdel Rahman, Hanin El Sayed, Rahma Ahmed, and Shams Mohamed.

Together, these athletes represent the future of Egyptian weightlifting, drawing from specialised national projects and prestigious military institutions.
