Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati spoke by phone with Dubravka Šuica, EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean, on Thursday. The call was part of ongoing coordination to strengthen Egypt–EU relations.

Abdel-Aati welcomed the progress in ties, noting the momentum from the Egypt–EU summit last October. He said the summit gave a strong push to the strategic partnership across six key areas. He stressed the need to build on its outcomes and expand economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

The minister also urged faster release of the second tranche of EU support to Egypt, citing the impact of regional military escalation on energy prices, shipping routes, supply chains, and Suez Canal revenues.

The two sides discussed the Mediterranean Charter action plan. Abdel-Aati outlined Egypt’s vision and proposed initiatives, highlighting the importance of integration among Mediterranean states and tackling shared challenges while seizing economic and cultural opportunities.

He also briefed the EU official on Egypt’s view of regional developments, warning of the risks of widening conflict. Abdelatty called for joint regional and international efforts to de-escalate and prioritize diplomacy and political solutions to safeguard stability in the region and Europe.
