Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir has inspected the final works and operational readiness of the second phase of Cairo’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, the ministry said in a press release.

The second phase extends 40km from El-MosheerTantawy Station to Sun Capital Station at the intersection of the Ring Road and Fayoum Road. It includes 16 stations out of a total of 48 planned across the project’s three phases.

During the tour, Minister El-Wazir reviewed station facilities, passenger access points via pedestrian bridges and tunnels, ticketing systems and electronic gates, as well as connections with transport hubs located beneath the Ring Road.

The second phase is of particular importance following strong public uptake of the first one, which runs from the Ring Road–Alexandria Agricultural Road intersection to the Police Academy Station, he noted.

He highlighted the project’s importance in facilitating smoother mobility and cutting travel times.

The BRT project is part of the government’s plan to expand mass transit, reduce reliance on private carsand costs, save time, ease congestion and lessen impact on the environment, the minister said.

The system uses locally manufactured electric buses and connects key intersections along the Ring Road, including Suez, Adly Mansour, Marg and Mostorod.
