EgyptAir 2025: New heights, new fleets, new records

The 2025 has stood as a testament to EgyptAir’s unwavering commitment to excellence, marked by a series of prestigious international accolades. Most notably, the national carrier was crowned “Best Airline in Africa for Passenger Services” at an official ceremony held during the 55th Paris Air Show.

This achievement was bolstered by a significant leap in global standing; according to Skytrax, the industry’s leading ranking organisation, EgyptAir surged 20 places to rank 68th among the world’s top 100 airlines.

These honours reflect a successful institutional transformation focused on elevating the passenger experience and modernising service delivery, garnering international praise from industry leaders and passengers alike.

Strategic cultural stewardship, economic growth

Beyond its operational success, EgyptAir solidified its role as a national ambassador by serving as the official sponsor for the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum. This partnership aligns with a comprehensive national strategy to promote the world’s largest archaeological destination, positioning the airline as the primary gateway for travelers seeking to explore Egypt’s ancient heritage through a modern lens. This cultural leadership has been accompanied by unprecedented financial performance.

During the 2024/2025 fiscal year, the company achieved record-breaking profits across all sectors, including duty-free operations, ground services, and air cargo.

This financial boom is a direct result of integrated management policies and synergistic cooperation between the various subsidiaries under the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Fleet modernisation

The airline’s strategic direction continues to be shaped by influential leadership, with Pilot Chairman of EgyptAir Holding Company Ahmed Adel being named one of the most powerful leaders in the regional travel and tourism sector by Forbes Middle East.

Under his guidance and the supervision of Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny the carrier has embarked on an ambitious fleet expansion plan.

With a current fleet of 71 aircraft, the airline has initiated a roadmap to acquire 34 new state-of-the-art planes. This includes a total of 16 Airbus A350-900s—the first of which arrives this January—and the leasing of 18 Boeing B737-8 MAX aircraft. This expansion ensures that EgyptAir remains competitive on the global stage, offering passengers the latest in aviation technology and comfort.

Expanding global reach

EgyptAir’s network has seen a robust expansion in 2025, now connecting 82 international destinations from Cairo International Airport and four from Alexandria, complemented by six vital domestic routes. The fiscal year saw the strategic addition of new destinations including Zurich, Prague, Mogadishu, Djibouti, Abidjan, Taif, Tabuk, and Misrata. This growth not only enhances Egypt’s connectivity with Europe, Africa, and the Middle East but also reinforces Cairo’s position as a pivotal regional hub for international transit and commerce.

Engineering milestones

The engineering arm of the national carrier has earned high praise from global manufacturers, specifically Airbus, for its rapid and professional response to technical requirements. EgyptAir Maintenance and Engineering successfully implemented critical software updates across the A320 fleet in a record-breaking eight hours, ensuring zero disruption to flight schedules. Furthermore, the company successfully renewed its European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA Part-145) accreditation and maintained its US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification for the 15th consecutive year. These milestones, achieved under the leadership of Engineer Ibrahim Fathy, underscore a commitment to the highest global safety standards and technical proficiency.

Dubai Airshow

The 2025 Dubai Airshow served as a major platform for EgyptAir to forge new international partnerships. Key agreements included a security and risk management protocol with MedAire and a new ground handling contract with the startup Sky Horizon. Notably, the airline expanded its training capabilities through a strategic partnership with FlightSafety International, acquiring a Level D Full Flight Simulator for the Boeing 737 MAX. Additionally, EgyptAir Maintenance and Engineering was officially accredited by Airbus as a provider of periodic maintenance for aircraft structures, further cementing its reputation as a premier technical hub in the Middle East and Africa.

Medical advancements

Looking ahead to the future of industry collaboration, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has selected Egypt to host the 38th IATA Ground Handling Conference (IGHC) in May 2026. This prestigious event will be held under the auspices of EgyptAir Ground Services, highlighting Egypt’s role as a leader in aviation logistics. Simultaneously, the company has achieved success in the healthcare sector; EgyptAir Hospital, led by Dr Ayman Salah, recently performed a groundbreaking TEVAR procedure on an 81-year-old patient using advanced intravascular ultrasound technology.

This medical success mirrors the airline’s broader commitment to excellence in every branch of its operations.

Excellence in Air Cargo

EgyptAir Cargo has mirrored the success of the passenger division by successfully renewing multiple international ISO certifications, including those for Quality Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Environment, and Food Safety. Under the leadership of Captain Ehab El-Tahtawy, the cargo division passed rigorous audits by OSS Middle East and the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC).

These certifications validate the company’s adherence to best global practices and its dedication to human resource development, directly supporting Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the national agenda for sustainable development.
