United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres Monday said that the UN is working to support all efforts to end the conflict in Gaza and alleviate the suffering of civilians.
“I very much welcome the release of the Israeli hostages held in Gaza,” Guterres wrote on his official account on social networking website “X” on Monday.
“I am profoundly relieved that they have regained their freedom and will soon be reunited with their loved ones after the immense suffering they have endured.
“I reiterate my call for the release of the remains of the deceased hostages.
“I urge all parties to build on this momentum and to honor their commitments under the ceasefire to end the nightmare in Gaza.”
Guterres has arrived to Sharm El-Sheikh, where he joins world leaders taking part in the Peace Summit that will take place Monday.
The summit will be co-chaired by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and US President Donald Trump.
The summit aims to bring an end to the war in Gaza and promote peace and stability in the Middle East.
