Egyptian Minister of Petroleum Tarek el-Mulla on Monday met with Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad to discuss preparations for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 27) in Sharm el-Sheikh in November.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli will be the chairman of a supreme committee comprising ministers and representatives of the bodies concerned to take measures to ensure the success of the event.

“Egypt will make every effort to achieve success in COP27 in facing this challenge that threatens the whole world,” el-Mulla said, adding that Egypt had been selected to host COP27 after several years of effort in countering climates change.

Egypt has launched several initiatives to combat climate change, of which the latest is the presidential initiative to converting petrol-fuelled vehicles to natural gas, el-Mulla said.

Egypt will enumerate all the initiatives it has adopted in recent years to limit carbon emissions at COP27,
El-Mulla added.

El-Molla also pointed out that Egypt is co-operating with several countries and international firms to reduce carbon emissions. He said that the Cairo-based East Mediterranean Gas Forum recently agreed to diversify clean sources of energy and expand the use of natural gas in transport as part of plans to curb carbon emissions.

Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad said COP27 will help African countries and the most affected nations to swiftly take measures to confront climate change and adapt to its impact.
