Egypt wins presidency of Africa's Union of MMA 1 - Egyptian Gazette

CAIRO – Head of the Egyptian Federation of Muai Thai Mohamed Ibrahim has won the presidency of the African Union for Mixed Martial Arts in a meeting for the formation of the union’s founding council.

 

Representatives of 14 African countries namely Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Sudan, Mauritania, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Senegal, Cote D’Ivoire, Mauritius, Togo, Sirena Leon along with Egypt attended the meeting which was held in Cairo. Some of the participants attended the meeting virtually.

 

Addressing the meeting, Ibrahim said Egypt will host the first African championship for MMA in view of its reputation in organising international sports events.

 

MMA is a mixture of karate, kung fu, taekwondo, judo, boxing, muay thai, jujitsu, and Greco-Roman wrestling, and is in growing popularity amongst the youth of Egypt.

 

One highly-anticipated team is the “Egyptian Top Team”, which includes a number of well-known players who have participated in local as well as international fights.
