Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday to discuss regional developments and efforts to ease tensions.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nader Zaki said the two ministers discussed the latest developments in the region.
Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of all parties taking their part in achieving the common goal of de-escalation, particularly amid worrying signs of rising tensions in recent days.
The call also covered recent meetings held in Tehran, with Minister Abdelatty voicing Egypt’s full support for efforts to contain tensions and prevent the situation from escalating into a wider crisis.
The two ministers also discussed continued broader regional consultations between Iran and the four-way ministerial mechanism comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, known as R4.
Recent moves by the mechanism have highlighted the need to co-ordinate regional efforts and ensure that all relevant parties assume their responsibilities in addressing current challenges and working to reduce tensions, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
