Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has headed to Rome  to participate in the World Leaders’ Summit on Children’s Rights. The summit, chaired by His Holiness Pope Francis, took place on February 2, 3, at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican City.

Minister Abdel Ghaffar was received by Egypt’s Ambassador to Rome Bassam Radi.

On the sidelines of the summit, the minister met his Italian counterpart and probed opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

Discussions addressed the completion of the transformation of the Italian Consulate building in Port Said into an Italian hospital  as well as a proposed plan to enhance services and facilities at the “Umberto I” Italian Hospital in Cairo.

The meeting also explored investment opportunities in the healthcare sector.

Minister Abdel Ghaffar also discussed medical co-operation with Italian private investors regarding the establishment of a state-of-the-art 100-bed San Donato Hospital in New Cairo, equipped with the latest global medical technologies.

The Vatican Summit on Children’s Rights was held under the theme “Let Us Love and ProtectThem”.

Pope Francis inaugurated the event by welcoming ten children from different countries, who presented him with a message on behalf of their peers.

The summit featured seven sessions, each focusing on specific aspects of children’s rights, including access to education, the right to family, protection from violence, and access to resources. Advocates for children’s rights from around the world attended the event, including Queen Rania of Jordan, former US Vice President Al Gore, Italy’s Foreign Minister, and a host of other global and international figures.
