Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reviewed the main pillars of Egypt’s strategy to localise automotive manufacturing and supporting industries during a meeting with Industry Minister Khaled Hashem and senior ministry officials.

Madbouly stressed that industrial growth remains a key government priority, with particular focus on establishing a domestic automotive industry that leverages Egypt’s large consumer market and export opportunities. He noted that the plan places special emphasis on electric vehicles and their components in line with Egypt’s green transition strategy and efforts to reduce reliance on conventional fuels and imports.

Industry Minister Khaled Hashem outlined progress across several pillars of the strategy, including efforts to localise the production of metal automotive components through partnerships involving an international company, El Araby Group and the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation (AOI). The project will initially manufacture seven metal components with annual production of around eight million units.

The minister also reviewed initiatives to localise electric vehicle battery production, including partnerships involving MCV for battery-powered buses and discussions with a global manufacturer to supply batteries for vehicles produced locally. He added that talks are underway with an international company to manufacture electric vehicle motors in Egypt in co‑operation with the AOI.

Hashem highlighted plans by a major international automaker to begin producing three electric vehicle models in Egypt starting in 2027, targeting annual production of 100,000 vehicles before expanding further by 2032. He also noted that China’s Dongfeng is moving forward with local electric vehicle production in partnership with SN Automotive and El Nasr Automotive.

The meeting further reviewed measures to strengthen feeder industries, including localising laboratory testing services and upgrading the Engineering Industries Technology Centre in 10th of Ramadan City to support suppliers. Discussions also covered co‑operation with international companies to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure and prepare the supporting network required for its operation.

Officials additionally reviewed developments under the Automotive Industry Development Programme (AIDP), including proposed incentives and support measures designed to encourage manufacturers to begin producing electric vehicles locally and deepen local content within the sector.
