Egypt is doing its utmost to guarantee Libya’s security and stability and safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said.

The president’s remarks came Saturday during his meeting with Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar in the presence of Hassan Rashad, head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS).

The president voiced Egypt’s full support for all initiatives aiming to realize such goals to revitalize the national development process in Libya.

The meeting touched upon the special relationship between Egypt and Libya, Presidential Spokesman Mohammed El Shennawy said, noting that Sisi stressed that Libya’s stability is closely related to the national security of Egypt.

The president also expressed Egypt’s keenness to support the unity of Libyan national institutions, underlining the need to strengthen coordination among all Libyan parties to set the stage for holding parliamentary and presidential elections and end all foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs.

President Sisi also lauded the national roles played by the Libyan army to counter terrorism and uproot terrorist organizations in Eastern Libya.

For his part, Haftar praised Egypt’s pivotal role in restoring stability in Libya and backing the Libyan people at all levels, emphasizing the need for continuing efforts aimed at resolving the situation in Libya, in a way that contributes to restoring the resources of the Libyan people and serving the nation’s stability, prosperity and well-being.
