Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation, Sameh El-Hefny, has announced that the VIP lounge at Aswan International Airport will be named after renowned heart surgeon Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub. The decision honours Yacoub’s outstanding contributions to cardiac surgery and transplantation, as well as his humanitarian efforts.
Yacoub, a professor of cardiothoracic surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London, is also the founder of the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation in Aswan. He has been recognised globally for his groundbreaking work, including advancements in heart valve technology, and for saving countless lives through his medical expertise and charitable services.
As part of the tribute, photographs of Sir Magdi Yacoub will also be displayed across the departure and arrival halls of Aswan International Airport.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation stated that the naming reflects Egypt’s commitment to honoring scientists and innovators who elevate the nation’s global standing. “This recognition celebrates Yacoub’s scientific achievements and humanitarian contributions, positioning him as a shining example for future generations,” the ministry said.
