Egypt has expressed strong condemnation and denunciation of the systematic and unjust targeting by the Israeli occupation of healthcare infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. This includes the recent targeting and evacuation of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, which is the last major functioning healthcare facility in the area.
This blatant aggression constitutes a flagrant violation of all international norms and conventions, adding to the series of violations committed by Israeli occupation forces against Palestinians in Gaza, contrary to all relevant international agreements, including Israel’s obligations as the occupying power.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Sunday, Egypt warned against the continuation of such reprehensible actions aimed at depopulating northern Gaza and rendering it uninhabitable, effectively forcing its inhabitants to abandon their land.
These actions necessitate the activation of international accountability mechanisms and decisive measures by the international community and the UN Security Council to halt this trend, which not only represents flagrant breaches of international law and humanitarian law but also poses a serious threat to regional and international peace and security, the Foreign Ministry said.
In the same statement, Egypt reaffirmed its unequivocal and categorical rejection of all plans and measures aimed at displacing the inhabitants of Gaza from their land in any form.
Egypt stressed the urgent need to end this senseless war on Gaza as soon as possible, to cease these brutal practices, and to remove barriers to the flow of humanitarian aid, ensuring sufficient and sustainable relief for the hundreds of thousands of people in the Strip, it added.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) expressed dismay over the Israeli raid into Gaza’s last functioning hospital.
“WHO is appalled by the raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital, which put the last major health facility in North Gaza out of service. The systematic dismantling of the health system and a siege for over 80 days on North Gaza puts the lives of the 75,000 Palestinians remaining in the area at risk,” the organisation said in a press statement.
WHO called for “urgently ensuring that hospitals in North Gaza can be supported to become functional again”.
