Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Thursday with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the D-8 Organisation for Economic Co-operation Summit held in the New Administrative Capital.

The two presidents emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in all areas to benefit both nations and their peoples. They explored methods to further strengthen their relationship, particularly in the realms of economics, trade, and investment, Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy said in a statement following the meeting.

The meeting addressed developments in the Middle East as both leaders emphasized the need to intensify coordination and consultation to resolve regional crises and ensure peace and stability.

They also reviewed Egypt’s efforts to secure a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, facilitate the release of hostages and detainees, and ensure unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza.

Erdogan expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts, agreeing with President Sisi that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the fundamental guarantee for restoring peace and stability in the region.

The meeting also covered the situation in Syria as President Sisi stressed the importance of preserving the country’s unity, independence, and territorial integrity while initiating a Syrian political process that brings together all segments of the society to achieve national reconciliation and ensures a successful transition.

The discussions also extended to other regional files, particularly Libya, Sudan, and Somalia. Both leaders underscored the importance of safeguarding the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of these nations to ensure peace and safety of their peoples.

Additionally, they condemned Israeli violations in Syrian territories, calling for an immediate cessation of such actions.
