LUXOR, Egypt – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said that the partial soft opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum will start as of next Wednesday, October 16, as per relevant directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The partial operation will include a trial operation of the main hall of the museum and a gradual operation of some other parts in preparation for the grand official opening of the museum, which is set to be the largest archaeological museum complex in the world, Madbouly told reporters during his visit to the Upper Egyptian governorate of Luxor.

The prime minister was accompanied by Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Sherif El Sherbiny, Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel Latif, Luxor Governor Abdel Muttalib Mamdouh Emara, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) Mohamed Ismail Khaled and deputy housing minister Sayed Ismail.

During the visit, the prime minister inspected several projects in the education, health, service and tourism sectors.

Madbouly said the Luxor visit is the first by the newly-formed government to an Upper Egyptian governorate.

He added that the visit included tours of the technological university in New Thebes City, two secondary and primary schools, and the Luxor International Medical Complex.
