Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty asserted the historic ties between Egypt and Nigeria, adding that Egypt is looking forward to boosting cooperation to improve the bilateral ties, especially in the investment and trade domains.

This came on Saturday during Abdelatty’s meeting with his Nigerian counterpart Yusuf Maitama Tuggar on the sidelines of the Sixth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union (AU) and the regional economic gatherings at the level of summit.

Abdelatty pointed out to the importance of holding the 3rd edition of the political consultation mechanism between the foreign ministries of both countries to discuss means to boost ties and exchange points of view on regional and international issues of mutual interest, Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

Abdelatty asserted the importance of boosting cooperation in the field of combating terror and other security threats as both countries encounter mutual challenges of the increasing dangers of terror organizations in the coastal area, the spokesman said.

Abdelatty lauded Nigerian success in noticeably limiting the dangers of the terrorist organizations, asserting Egypt’s keenness on presenting all technical support and knowledge need to stand against these multi-dimension threats, Abu Zeid said.

Abdelatty pointed out to the necessity to promote economic cooperation between both countries and improve the volume of trade exchange to cope with the volume of their economies, adding that there are efforts to hold an Egyptian-Nigerian business council to boost communication between the business communities in both countries.

The minister asserted the readiness of the Egyptian companies to work in national and strategic projects in Nigeria.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s keenness on presenting support to the Nigerian brethren in the different domains in addition to presenting scholarships by Azhar and the Egyptian universities, the spokesman added.

Meanwhile, Tuggar asserted the importance of improving the relations between Egypt and Nigerian to the strategic level, adding that his country is looking forward to continuing cooperation in a number of pivotal sectors, including the agricultural, communication and information technology domains in addition to benefiting from the Egyptian expertise and distinguished experience in green hydrogen production and improving the electricity sector.

He also lauded the Egyptian support to the Nigerian capabilities in a number of domains, topped by combating terror.
