Egypt, Azerbaijan signal desire to enhance their cooperation, coordination President Abdel Fattah El Sisi welcomed at the Presidential Palace in Cairo on Saturday President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and his accompanying delegation.
The two leaders held talks on a wide range of issues. They then witnessed the signing of several joint agreements by their respective ministers and officials.
President Sisi described President Aliyev’s visit to Cairo as an ‘important’ one that reflects common interest on the part of Egypt and Azerbaijan to enhance their bilateral relations in the coming period. “The talks we conducted today affirm our aspiration to work together to boost our two countries’ bilateral relations in different fields,” the Egyptian leader said at a press briefing following his talks with President Aliyev. He referred to the importance of political coordination between Cairo and Baku on regional and international issues of common interest.
President Sisi also signaled Egypt’s desire to push its economic and trade ties with Azerbaijan more forward in the coming period. “We can do this by utilizing available potentials,” he added. President Sisi especially cited construction, transport, communications and information technology, the food and pharmaceutical industry and oil and gas as potential fields for cooperation between Egypt and Azerbaijan.
