CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Tarek El Molla has said that Egypt is drawing up a national strategy to produce hydrogen in co-operation with ministries concerned.

The minister’s statements came during a meeting with Kentaro Hosomi, Executive Vice President, Chief Regional Officer, Europe, Middle East and Africa of Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and his accompanying delegation to discuss co-operation in the fields clean energy and means to curb carbon emission, said a statement issued by the ministry Wednesday.

Minister Molla added the petroleum sector is discussing with international companies including Mitsubishi, which possesses state-of-the-art technologies, joint co-operation to carry out clean energy projects.

He added the petroleum sector is studying several initiatives in that domain in preparation for presenting them to the coming international climate change conference in Sharm el-Sheikh next year.

Hosomi, for his part, gave a presentation on the projects carried out by his company in the field of clean energy and hydrogen production as well as the Carbon capture, utilisation and storage in many countries including the United States, Britain, Germany, Italy, Australia, along with others.

He said that Egypt has promising chances to carry out similar projects and to become a major market in the region.

Hosomi added that his company intends to take part in the Sharm el-Sheikh summit to help reduce carbon emissions, hailing Egypt’s role in that domain.
