The construction of more grain silos is the most salient feature of the Egyptian Ministry of Planning and Economic Development’s plan in the supply and internal trade sector during the fiscal year 2023/2024.
The construction of the silos, the ministry said in a statement, shedding light on this plan on Sunday, aims to preserve the strategic stock of wheat and reach the lowest possible percentage of losses.
The same move also aims to protect the national strategic stock of wheat against damage.
The silos, it added, would increase the national grain storage capacity.
It noted that the new silos would increase the national wheat storage capacity by 140,000 tonnes.
The ministry said the new silos would develop and raise the efficiency of local silos.
It also referred to a plan to increase the number of mills on the road to increasing the production capacities of fine flour.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development revealed that its plan for the 2023/2024 also includes the establishment of new logistics zones in different parts of Egypt.
The new zones, it said, aim to provide all food commodities at appropriate prices and high quality.
The same move, it said, would tighten control over the market.
It said the same plan includes the establishment of commercial malls and a series of bakeries that would createnew jobs and increase the availability of food commodities in all governorates.
Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Hala el-Saeed, said her ministry’s plan for 2023/2024 in the supply and internal trade sector aims to increase the amount of commodities on offer.
The same plan, the minister said, also aims to step up the flow of supply commodities, especially subsidized food and basic commodities.
We also aim to upgrade the local supply chains, particularly when it comes to strategic commodities, the minister said.
