Exports by food industries increased during the period (January-September) this year by 14 per cent$3.9 billion, compared to about $3.4 billion in the same period in 2022. This value is the highest in the history of Egyptian food industry exports for the same period.
The monthly report issued by the Food Industries Export Council said that exports in January 2023 were worth $369 million, up 15 per cent compared to January 2022.
According to the report, exports to Arab countries during the first nine months of 2023 were worth a $2.127 billion, accounting for 55 per cent of the total export volume, followed by the European Union with $666 million, up 11 per cent.
Sudan was the biggest importer with $393 million, up 164 per cent, followed by Saudi Arabia with $305 million worth of imports.
Exports to America amounted to $174 million, down 9 per cent, while to Yemen imported food products worth $146 million up 14 per cent.
Hani Barzi, chairman of the Export Council for Food Industries, said that the Council seeks to increase Egyptian food exports through the marketing activities it has been carrying out since the beginning of this year, which began with a mission to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the beginning of this year, through participation in the Gulf Food Dubai exhibition.
