Moody’s Ratings has upgraded GIG Egypt’s credit rating to Ba1 from Ba2, while maintaining its positive outlook, reflecting the insurer’s financial strength and resilience.
GIG Egypt said in a recent statement that the upgrade follows Moody’s decision to raise Egypt’s sovereign rating to B3. The agency had previously indicated that the insurer had the capacity to achieve higher credit ratings as Egypt’s sovereign rating improves.
Moody’s cited the company’s strong and flexible financial position, diversified insurance portfolio, solid growth and profitability, as well as strong support from its parent group, MENA news agency reported.
The upgrade reflects the insurer’s financial performance, operational effectiveness and risk management capabilities, while the positive outlook signals the potential for further rating improvements.
GIG Egypt is the property and casualty insurance arm of Kuwait’s Gulf Insurance Group and Canada’s Fairfax Financial Holdings in Egypt.
Gulf Insurance Group is a major insurance provider in the Middle East and North Africa, while Fairfax has a global presence in the insurance and reinsurance sectors. Their backing provides GIG Egypt with institutional support and international expertise.
The rating upgrade supports GIG Egypt’s strategy in the Egyptian market, which focuses on sustainable growth, digital transformation and the development of insurance services and solutions to enhance customer experience and meet the needs of individuals and businesses.
The company also aims to strengthen insurance’s role in protecting economic activities and supporting business continuity.
