Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reiterated Egypt’s full readiness to support Iraq in all fields and at various official levels in order to help the country restore its historical position and develop mutual co-operation through investing in the current momentum in relations, whether at the bilateral level or through the tripartite co-operation mechanism with Jordan.

He also stressed the importance of the parliamentary elections in shaping the Iraq’s future and strengthening its national institutions.

President Sisi remarks came during his meeting yesterday with Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Mohamed al-Halbousi. The meeting was attended by House of Deputies Speaker Counselor Hanafi Gebali, and the Iraqi Ambassador in Cairo Ahmed Nayef Al-Dulaimi.

During the meeting, the president emphasised Egypt’s rejection of all foreign interference in Iraq’s affairs, and its adherence to the principles of mutual respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in the internal affairs of others, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said in a statement yesterday.

For his part, al-Halbousi conveyed to President Sisi the greetings of Iraqi President Barham Salih and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, stressing his country’s pride in the successive visits of President Sisi to Iraq, which resulted in the consolidation of bilateral relations between the two countries.

He also praised Egypt’s supportive role in restoring stability in Iraq, and its contributions to the development and consolidation of Iraqi security, within the framework of Egypt’s firm policy towards the Arab nations. He expressed aspiration to develop cooperation between the two countries in various fields, especially at the parliamentary level, and to benefit from the Egyptian experiences in the field of development and building state institutions.
