Arab FMs condemn religious hate crimes, infringement on religious beliefs 1 - Egyptian Gazette

Arab foreign ministers condemned all religious-based hate crimes and infringement on religious beliefs of nations and peoples, Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.

They also deplored the burning of copies of the Holy Qur’an and other holy books or the profaning of religious symbols, asserting that such acts constitute a blatant violation of human rights.

Their remarks came in a decision released today at the conclusion of the 160th session of the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers.

The Arab foreign ministers called for issuing an international law that criminalises contempt of religions and sanctities.

They emphasised that the values of tolerance and co-existence require having no double standards and firmly dealing with any act that encroaches on religious sanctities.

The Arab foreign ministers underlined that the right to freedom of expression should be exercised in a responsible manner and must be subject to constitutional and legal controls that are supposed to proactively prevent any acts that distort the image of religions.
