The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on Thursday that a tanker was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, with no injuries reported among its crew.
In a statement posted on its website, the agency explained that it received a report from the security officer of the company operating the tanker stating that the vessel had been hit by an unidentified projectile. It noted that no immediate information was available regarding environmental damage, nor did it specify whether the vessel was carrying oil or gas.
UKMTO did not disclose the tanker’s name, nationality, the source of the projectile, or the extent of material damage resulting from the incident.
Earlier on Thursday, the agency reported that a fire had broken out aboard a vessel off the Omani port of Khasab in the Strait of Hormuz.
