The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has received a report of an incident occurring in the Strait of Hormuz, 9NM north of Khasab, Oman.
“The Master of a third-party vessel has reported sighting another vessel on fire. Status of crew is unknown,” a statement issued by the agency read Thursday.
“There is no damage assessment or environmental impact report at present.
“Vessels are advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO, whilst authorities investigate.”
The incident comes amid rising tensions between Iran and the US over navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy and commodity supplies.
