Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas on Thursday awarded Egypt’s ambassador to Palestine, Ehab Suleiman, the Star of Jerusalem, one of the Palestinian Order of Jerusalem’s highest honours.
The award recognised Suleiman’s efforts to strengthen relations and co-operation between Egypt and Palestine, as well as his support for the Palestinian people and their struggle for freedom and independence, the Palestinian presidency said.
Abbas presented the honour during a meeting with Suleiman at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, marking the end of the ambassador’s posting.
The Palestinian president praised the “deep-rooted historical and fraternal ties” between the two countries and Egypt’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause.
He also thanked Suleiman for his efforts to enhance communication between the two sides and wished him success in his future diplomatic duties.
Suleiman expressed his gratitude for the award, saying it reflected the depth of the historic and brotherly ties between Egypt and Palestine.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate national rights, and said Cairo would continue backing their aspirations for freedom and independence.
