JEDDAH – The Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) welcomed the decision of the Government and Parliament of Slovenia to recognise the State of Palestine, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The OIC said that this important and historic step advances the achievement of justice and freedom for the Palestinian people, and affirms their legitimate rights, including self-determination.

The OIC valued such positions, which are consistent with the rules of international law and relevant UN resolutions, and strengthen international efforts aimed at ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including the city of Jerusalem.

The OIC renewed its call on world countries which have not yet recognised the State of Palestine to take the initiative to announce this recognition and to support the State of Palestine’s request for full membership in the United Nations, within the framework of supporting international efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability in the region in accordance with the vision of the two-state solution and based on the relevant international legitimacy resolutions and the Arabic peace initiative.
