NEW YORK – UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned Monday that the health system in Gaza is collapsing.
The situation there is rapidly deteriorating towards a catastrophe, Guterres said in a statement carried by the UN News Centre, noting that this would affect peace and security in the region.
The UN Security Council has muted response to the non-stop Israeli strikes on Gaza, the UN Chief said, adding that the UNSC credibility and authority have been undermined.
Guterres had sent a letter to the UNSC invoking Article 99 of the UN Charter for the first time since he assumed his post in 2017.
