Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy said Wednesday that Israel was seeking to change the historic, legal and demographic status of Jerusalem.
Speaking at a meeting of Arab foreign ministers in the Jordanian capital, Fahmy said the risks and threats facing the city and Al-Aqsa Mosque required urgent action.
He accused Israel of pursuing plans to divide the mosque by time and space, saying it was attempting to impose a new reality in Jerusalem.
Fahmy also called for a comprehensive programme to support the resilience of Jerusalem’s Palestinian residents in the face of Israeli policies.
He urged the international community to take swift action against what he described as illegal Israeli measures in Jerusalem.
