CAIRO — Mohamed Montaser Afifi, a key member of the Egyptian national gymnastics team, grabbed the silver medal at the 2026 Artistic Gymnastics World Cup for men and women. The event ran from April 3 to 6 at Cairo International Stadium.

His standout performance on the parallel bars, scoring 14.200 points, put him right up there among the world’s best.

The gold went to Yang Liu from China, who scored 14.366, and Arseniy Dukhno—competing as a neutral competitor—took bronze with 14.166.

The championship featured 128 athletes from 33 countries, which says a lot about how tough the field was.

Speaking after his podium finish, Afifi described the achievement as a significant milestone rather than a final goal.

“Winning a medal on home soil, with the support of the crowd behind me, was incredibly motivating,” he said.

Afifi made it clear he cares most about his performance. “My goal was just to focus on my routines. Medals happen when you put in the work and keep improving,” he said.

Looking ahead, Afifi confirmed that he is working hard to sharpen his skills, and he’s got his eyes on more challenges including the World Championships.

“International competition demands continuous effort. This medal is just one step out of many I’m chasing,” Afifi concluded.
